DGH supports the movement to close the School of the Americas!

The November vigil to close the School of the Americas brought together thousands of nuns, priests, torture survivors, union workers, veterans, artists, students, musicians, and more. The community gathered to work, teach, learn, sing, protest, pray and celebrate the many struggles for justice that the movement reflects.

MEXICAN COMMUNITY LEADER ABDUCTED On 13 September, social activist Víctor Ayala Tapia was abducted by six armed men in Tecpan de Galeana municipality in the Southern Mexican state of Guerrero. His whereabouts remain unknown and Amnesty International is concerned that he may have been subjected to enforced disappearance. Please read complete Amnesty International Report. On the morning of 13 September, six armed men arrived at Víctor Ayala Tapia’s house in the small rural village of Papanoa, Tecpan de Galena municipality, and demanded to see his identification.

We, the undersigned workers, artists, intellectuals, and human rights groups strongly condemn the widespread human rights atrocities against the Honduran people, beginning with the military coup on June 28th of 2009. Reports from human rights organizations emerge every day detailing state repression, from rape to assassination, of members of the non-violent resistance, whose aim is to restore constitutional order to their country and foster the creation of a more just society.
