August 2002 General Assembly Registration Health and Justice: For All or Just US? Doctors for Global Health is pleased to invite you to the 2002 General Assembly. This annual event is a chance to come together and meet others working to advance health and human rights, to learn, to support one another, and to have fun. Come participate in lively discussions, listen to world-renowned speakers, and re-energize yourself to continue working for social justice around the world. Dates: Friday Evening, August 2nd to Sunday Morning, August 4th. Place: Lesley University, Boston, Massachusetts, located in Cambridge between Harvard and Porters Square. Special Guest Speakers: Keynote Address by Dr. Jack Geiger, a champion of health and human rights over the past five decades and a founding member of both Physicians for Human Rights and Physicians for Social Responsibility. This year's featured Social Justice Speaker is Dr. Juan Romagoza, Director of La Clinica del Pueblo in Washington, DC, and the principal plaintiff, among other Salvadoran torture-survivors, in the case against two Salvadoran generals accused of grave human rights abuses. Dr. Romagoza was also an important player in Washington, DC's healthcare reform process, in whichfor the first time in the United Stateshealthcare access is being offered to all, even to the undocumented. He will motivate and inspire everyone. Special Musical Event: Friday night will feature a special musical celebration and fundraiser with local Afro-Latin ensembles Sol y Canto and Sumaj Chasquis. Tickets will be available at the General Assembly. Cost (sliding scale): With lodging (2 nights), $100-$200 includes four meals, lodging and program. If you do not require lodging, $50-$100 includes program and four meals. Any payment above $200 for lodgers and $100 for non-lodgers would be a much appreciated tax-deductible donation to DGH. All attendees staying at Lesley University will be able to check into their rooms between 9am and 9pm on Friday, August 2, at 31 Mellen St., on the Lesley campus. Dress: Very casual. Directions From Logan Airport: The Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) runs a subway system known as the T. It operates every 4-13 minutes from 5:30 am to around 12:30 am. To get to the Airport station take the free Massport shuttle bus from terminal Arrivals levels. The airport is on the Blue Line, change at State for the Orange Line to Downtown station, and then change to the Red Line to Harvard Square. Cost $1.00. Then follow directions below. Also, a number of bus companies run services from the airport, details are available at 1-800-23-LOGAN. From Harvard Square: Get off at the Harvard Square T stop. Walk through Harvard Yard, past the Science Building, and to Oxford Street Walk up Oxford Street approximately 1 mile. Take a Left on Mellen Street. The housing facilities are off the main quad on Mellen Street. From Porter Square: Get off at the Porter Square T stop. Walk east (toward big the buildings of Boston, Hancock, Prudential, in the distance) on Mass Avenue, approximately 3/4 mile and take a Left on Mellen Street. Housing facilities are on the right.
To the meeting rooms, located at Porter Square: Get off at Porter Square T stop. Walk east on Mass Avenue (toward big buildings in distance) about 100 paces. On same side of Mass Avenue as T stop is the Porter Exchange Building with a huge Lesley University sign in front. Go in this building and follow the signs to the conference rooms.
