Join DGH-LA on International Human Rights Day to Unveil the South Los Angeles Declaration of Health & Human Rights! Thursday, December 10, 2009 - 5:00pm - Martin Luther King Hospital, Los Angeles, CA For more information, please visit www.southlahealthandhumanrights.org. Doctors for Global Health believes that optimal health is a human right regardless of people’s place in society and geographic location. We address this by accompanying communities, while educating and inspiring others to action. We fully support the work currently underway by the broad-based coalition in the South Los Angeles Community to promote health and human rights for all. This work began on June 5th, 2009 at the First Annual South Los Angeles Health and Human Rights Conference: "As the movement for health and human rights advances, its local, national, and international fronts have an unprecedented opportunity to share lessons and leverage resources towards a common purpose: marked and measurable improvements in the health and well-being of children, adolescents and families. In south Los Angeles and beyond, the challenge for health and human rights advocates is not about whether we work together to seize this opportunity to achieve results, but about how." On June 5th, 2009, a broad-based coalition in south Los Angeles, a community whose health has been marred by a long history of inequity and neglect, highlighted homegrown solutions, explored transnational partnerships, and demonstrated the effectiveness of community-led, place-based, and results-oriented approaches to healthier communities and human rights. On December 10th, 2009, DGH-LA will participate in continuing this vision at the unveiling of the South Los Angeles Declaration of Health and Human Rights. Again, please join us if you can.
