History of DGH In the Community

In the late 1990s members of DGH visited Nicaragua and witnessed the horror of children living off the garbage dump in barrio Edgar Lange. From this visit, and interim work, we formed a partnership with Dr. Saul Contreras and later the organization Atencion Primaria en Salud (APS) to address the needs of Barrio Edgar Lange and other communities in the country. Our goal was to train local health promoters to address the basic unmet health needs of the communities, to develop pre-school programs for education and nutrition of the most vulnerable populations, and send volunteers to help with ongoing projects and provide direct care services.

Current DGH Projects

Over the years many changes have taken place in Nicaragua, as well as in the U.S. and in the world. Thus, DGH is reconsidering the breadth and depth of the extended work in Nicaragua. Keep looking for updates. If you are particularly interested in Nicaragua, contact us now.
